Ten local government units (LGUs) in the province of Bataan received their brand new patrol jeeps on Wednesday following a turnover ceremony led by Secretary of the Interior and Local Government Mar Roxas at Camp Cirilo Tolentino in Balanga, Bataan.
This development came after the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) rolled out the first batch of the 1,470 units of patrol jeeps to the cities and municipalities in Region 3, including the LGUs in Bataan.
“Walang iniwan, walang pinili dahil kabahagi po ito ng siyento porsyento, lahat ng LGUs sa bansa ay magkakaroon ng patrol jeep,” Roxas said citing Daang Matuwid’s efforts to inclusive growth.
He turned over the 10 units of the 4X2 patrol jeeps to the municipalities of Abucay, Bagac, Hermosa, Limay, Mariveles, Morong, Orani, Orion, Pilar, and Samal.
A boost for APEC security efforts
Sr. Supt. Rhodel Sermonia, acting Bataan police provincial director, said that the brand new patrol jeeps will surely boost the patrol and security efforts of the Bataan Provincial Police Office in time for the holding of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Bataan.
The municipality of Bagac in Bataan will serve as host for the Bataan leg of the APEC Summit meetings slated from June 8 to June 13, where foreign dignitaries, world leaders and their families will visit Bataan landmarks and historical sites.
Sermonia said that the DILG’s delivery of patrol jeeps in Bataan LGUs is very timely now that their security preparations are underway for the APEC event.
Bagac Mayor Romel del Rosario said that the new patrol jeep that was given to them by the national government is a big help in the maintenance of peace and order in his locality, especially when APEC world leaders arrive and stay at Las Casas Filipinas, Bagac’s world-class five-star resort hotel, for the summit conference.
“Talagang malaking tulong ito sa amin lalo na sa paghahanda namin sa APEC Summit sa June para mabigyan ng maayos na seguridad ang mga participants,” del Rosario said.
Mayor Generosa dela Fuente, of the municipality of Samal, Bataan, said that on behalf of her fellow officials and their constituents in Samal, she is very thankful of Roxas who gave them importance by providing them with a patrol jeep, even without them sending requests.
“As far as I could remember, this is the first time that we received a patrol jeep from the national government in my four years in office,” dela Fuente said.
