
Philippines – Joint elements of Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine Navy confiscated a total of 14 sea turtles at the shoreline of Green Island, Barangay Tumarbong in Roxas, Palawan today.
Said turtles have an estimated market value of Php 450,000.00.
Reports received by the Coast Guard Action Center in Manila from Coast Guard District in Puerto Princesa, Palawan revealed that there will be a shipment of sea turtles from Green Island which will be brought to Marabon Island, Balabac, Palawan.
Around 3:40AM today, the personnel of Coast Guard Sub Station (CGSS) Roxas, Field Station-Palawan and Naval Intelligence Security Group (NISG) conducted a counteraction operation onboard a PCG speed boat that resulted to the seizure of the 14 full grown pawikan.
Stuffed with formalin for preservation, the pawikan were found in rice sacks and abandoned along the shoreline of Green Island.
The turtles are expected to arrive at Coast Guard District Headquarters Palawan to be turned over to Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) for proper disposition.
