Philippines – A wounded dolphin found stranded at the shoreline of Barangay Bonuan Sabangan, Dagupan City was rescued by the joint team of Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Dagupan and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) last Saturday, May 23.
Close examination with the dolphin conducted by Mr. Rolly B. Dunay, Agriculture Technologist of Bonuan, Binloc revealed that it was weak and wounded all over its body.
The wounded mammal was immediately brought to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in San Fabian for further medical treatment. Due to unfavorable sea condition, however, the Coast Guard personnel transported the dolphin by land.
As of this writing, the rescued dolphin is already recuperating and being monitored by Dagupan City Agriculture Office.
The city veterinary affirmed that once its health is fully restored, the dolphin will be released back to sea.
