Former President Benigno Aquino III said he will not attend President Duterte’s first State of the Nation Address, instead watch it on TV.
“I will watch it on TV to be able to concentrate on its content,” Aquino said.
Aquino will watch Duterte’s first SONA in the comfort of his own home in Times Street, Quezon City, Philippine Star reported.
Others had confirmed their attendance at the House gallery like Former presidents Fidel Ramos and Joseph Estrada (now Manila mayor), while Aquino’s immediate predecessor Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has her option to join her House colleagues.
Fidel Ramos known to be religiously attending SONAs after he stepped down from office in June 1998. Arroyo has the privilege to sit beside former presidents at the gallery and seating arrangement would be based on their succession and terms of office, as House deputy secretary general Artemio Adaza said.
Adaza also told that Arroyo could also sit in the middle of the session hall as representative of Pampanga.
Arroyo’s lawyer confirmed her attendance to President Duterte’s first SONA.
