Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has blasted anew the Catholic church, calling bishops as “sons of bitches,” in his recent speaking engagement.
The recent attacks of the leader to the church is due to the latter’s criticism of Duterte’s bloody war on drugs.
President Duterte, who started his campaign against illegal drugs when he took office in June 2016, remains popular but received heavy doubts and criticisms, thousands of people were killed, and the statistics are still increasing.
“Only I can say bishops are sons of bitches, damn you. That is true,” President Duterte said in a speech during a groundbreaking for a school.
The leader did not mention any particular name and reason for his criticism of the church, he even suggested that most bishops are homosexual.
“Most of them are gay,” he said. “They should come out in the open, cancel celibacy and allow them to have boyfriends.”
Earlier part of his presidency, Duterte admitted that he was sexually abused by a priest when he was a boy.
In various parts of the world, Catholic Church is facing clerical sexual abuse scandals, although there have been no major cases in the Philippines.
In Duterte’s previous speeches, he called God as “stupid” and described as “silly” the doctrine of Holy Trinity.
As of posting, the bloody war on drugs of Duterte administration is still ongoing and recorded over 5,000 people killed in police anti-drug operations.
The Philippines is Catholic-dominated country with over 80 percent of more than 100 million people are Roman Catholic.
