PNP HOLDS PRE-ELECTION CONFERENCE

To ensure the early activation of election duties and activities by the PNP, Police Deputy Director General Marcelo Garbo Jr., Deputy Chief PNP for Operations, led a pre-election conference amongst top senior PNP officials last Monday in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

PDDG Garbo met with the PNP Directorate for Intelligence, Directorate for Operations, Directorate for Investigative and Detective Management, Directorate for Comptrollership, Directorate for Personnel and Resource Management and Chief of the Public Information Office to discuss factors that may affect the peaceful and orderly conduct of elections next year.

Key officials of the PNP also discussed concerns regarding stronger police-community partnership, operations against loose firearms, Private Armed Groups (PAGs), criminal gangs and other threat groups.

Law enforcement operations in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies will also be activated in the coming months particularly the organization of Special Operations Task Groups (SOTGs) at the regional level to address PAGs and other high profile targets; and identification, validation and assessment of possible Election Watchlist Areas (EWAs) as a tool in mission planning.

Likewise, Garbo stresses vigorous AFP-PNP security collaboration wherein joint activities will be pursued such as the extensive utilization of the Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Center (JPSCC) as the main platform of coordination to address a wide range of security and law enforcement issues and the deployment of joint security assistance desks in all polling centers nationwide.

To ensure the protection and safety of personnel involved in the election, intensified election security coverage will be provided. Also, maximum deployment of PNP personnel for election duties will be ensured. Office personnel including those attending career courses or foundation training will also be deployed.

More than 1,000 Bangsamoro supporters gather at Cabili Plaza in Banggolo in the city of Marawi on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao on October 15, 2012, for a mass rally in support of the signing of a framework agreement for peace. Muslim rebels from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) waging a four-decade insurgency in the Philippines signed a historic pact with the government on October 15 in Manila to end the conflict, but both sides warned the road to peace had only just begun. The agreement would see the establishment of a new semi-autonomous Muslim area in the resource-rich southern Philippine region of Mindanao, where the people in the region are called Bangsamoro.
