To ensure the early activation of election duties and activities by the PNP, Police Deputy Director General Marcelo Garbo Jr., Deputy Chief PNP for Operations, led a pre-election conference amongst top senior PNP officials last Monday in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
PDDG Garbo met with the PNP Directorate for Intelligence, Directorate for Operations, Directorate for Investigative and Detective Management, Directorate for Comptrollership, Directorate for Personnel and Resource Management and Chief of the Public Information Office to discuss factors that may affect the peaceful and orderly conduct of elections next year.
Key officials of the PNP also discussed concerns regarding stronger police-community partnership, operations against loose firearms, Private Armed Groups (PAGs), criminal gangs and other threat groups.
Law enforcement operations in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies will also be activated in the coming months particularly the organization of Special Operations Task Groups (SOTGs) at the regional level to address PAGs and other high profile targets; and identification, validation and assessment of possible Election Watchlist Areas (EWAs) as a tool in mission planning.
Likewise, Garbo stresses vigorous AFP-PNP security collaboration wherein joint activities will be pursued such as the extensive utilization of the Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Center (JPSCC) as the main platform of coordination to address a wide range of security and law enforcement issues and the deployment of joint security assistance desks in all polling centers nationwide.
To ensure the protection and safety of personnel involved in the election, intensified election security coverage will be provided. Also, maximum deployment of PNP personnel for election duties will be ensured. Office personnel including those attending career courses or foundation training will also be deployed.
